About Greg

Hey! My name is Greg Balloch and I am a recent radio broadcasting graduate from Mohawk College in Hamilton, Ontario. I grew up in Oakville, Ontario and moved to Agassiz, British Columbia when I was seven. It was there my love for sports (and radio) grew. I started to play hockey as a goaltender for the first time, and routinely attended Chilliwack Chiefs Junior A hockey games. I had no idea that I would one day get to broadcast Junior A hockey on the radio by the time I was eighteen!

When I was twelve I moved back to Ontario and finished up my elementary and high school career. At the age of seventeen, I was accepted and began my first semester at Mohawk College of Applied Arts and Technology. I learned everything it took to work in a radio environment during my time at Mohawk, and volunteered hours upon hours at the campus radio station. I was a recipient of the coveted "INDI Award" which is awarded to the student who showed the most dedication to volunteering at the college radio station. Now I'm fully graduated at age twenty, and I'm ready to start my broadcasting career!

I always listened to broadcasters on the radio and television, hoping one day I would get to join them. Some of my idols in the broadcasting community are Jerry Howarth of the Toronto Blue Jays, Jason Smith of ESPN Radio in Los Angeles, and Chris Cuthbert who has worked for TSN and CBC.

On top of loving sports, I also have a strong passion for music! I have always had an interest in writing, and I have been writing about those two subjects for quite a while. Whether it's blogging, or article writing, I'm always trying to find an outlet to write. I also love using the program Photoshop to make all kinds of graphics and pictures. I'm not an expert, but I am able to use it quite easily.

I'm pretty good at picking up how to use computer programs quickly. I'm very proficient at all the programs commonly used at radio stations such as Adobe Audition, Simian, Wavestation, Pro Tools, and many more.

I'm also a bit of a social networking expert. I use the internet to widely promote my weekly radio show on INDI 101, and my Toronto Blue Jays podcast. Facebook, Twitter, Tumblr, you name it, I am able to use it to its' fullest extent. In only 10 months of being Twitter, I have already garnered close to 300 followers. To put that in perspective, some entire radio stations' Twitter accounts have less than 300 followers. The results show, as well. Every week I am bombarded by requests and comments on these social networking sites, and it is a great way to get in touch with fans.

I hope you enjoyed learning a bit about where I come from, and feel free to contact me if you have any questions or comments!
